The Wait Is Over.

The 1 year wait is finally over. Tomorrow will be the day we crash into Yohei's house in Tokyo!

The very first time we talked about going to Yohei's was in 2006, when all of us were still in Auckland. I remember how he used to tempt us with the story of homemade mochi and soba. Oh, I can't wait.

Will only be back on the 5th of January 2008. Be patient and you will be rewarded with wonderful photos. Till then, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Sayonara~

Baby Cheer!

I would have to say that I was caught off-guard when I was told that my friend's wife is expecting a baby. Don't get me wrong. I am very very happy for my friend who is going to be a proud daddy soon. He's gonna be a great one at that too.

Congratulations to both of you!

What I Need Right Now.

Caffeine, caffeine and more caffeine. Yohei left for Tokyo via Singapore yesterday morning while nursing a hangover. Last few days was definitely crazy for us and our stomach. It was all drive, see, eat, eat, eat, drive, sleep. I am sure we had pretty much most of the Malaysian food Yohei could stuff into his belly.

We started our journey from Singapore, where Yi Fan and I had to take the 5 hour bus down just to pick Japboy. Was expecting more Christmas lightings on Orchard Road but was deeply disappointed. What happened to those funky-dunky Christmas decors they used to put up long long time ago?!

2 days later, we came back to Kuala Lumpur. At approximately 8.30pm, our foodie tour officially begun. The word 'hungry' was almost never heard of throughout our Malaysian journey. In just 3 days, we had buffet, chinese kopitiam food, Madam Kwan's, pizza at Luna Bar, roti canai, Hainanese chicken rice balls, peranakan food and cendol at Melaka, durian, banana leaf rice, pisang goreng, keropok lekor, apam balik, seafood and plenty of alcoholic drinks.

And just when you thought we will be sick of New Zealand, we got ourselves drunk with NZ's 42Below Vodka.

Yada-yada.

Business has been rather slow lately and we have no idea why. Christmas, perhaps? Speaking of Christmas, I've put up a lovely Christmas tree at the corner of the shop. We also give out free candy-canes to kids who behave. Oh, and we have Santa sitting here, playing his computer. Maybe I'll do a little publicity for him. If you're at Mid-Valley Megamall's Centrecourt and come across Santa, be nice and he might give you some lollys. And if you wanna see how Santa looks like without his Christmas 'do, come by the cafe. You may, or may not be disappointed. That depends. Hahaha!

The internet back home is screwed up. It has become such a huge part of me that without it, I actually have nothing else to do besides Astro-surfing. No new music discoveries yet so far (huh?). I need to continue with my handicraft work. Still a looooooong way to go if I wanna get it done before the deadline!

Heading down to Singapore this coming weekend with Yi Fan to meet Yohei and bring him to KL. Seriously, where do I bring a foreigner to in KL? Suggestions welcomed!

Any other reason why these British bands are reuniting after so many years?

Comet!

Like a habit I clicked on all the Chinese-language channels on Astro, in search of interesting program to watch. This channel-surfing led to the discovery of a song from KBSW, a Korean channel. Ironically, KBSW is the channel I usually skip but this time I actually stop to watch the music video. Catchy song, I suppose.

Although the text from the music video are written in Korean, I managed to figure out the singer's name - Younha, and the song - Hyeseong (Comet). Thanks to the wonder of YouTube;

So there. Catchy enough for me to google high and low for the entire album. 2 albums. Singing and piano, a great combination IMO. It's like, as much as I hate Jay Chou I have to admit that it's charming to sing and play the piano at the same time.

Ho-huum..

Been rather quiet lately. Nothing interesting seems to be happening so far. I guess after a while life tends to be predictable and everyday is just like every other day - nothing to shout about.

I have a month left before flying off to Japan AND to complete a handiwork I promised to deliver (hopefully) by January. Progressing well albeit slowly. At the same time, I am trying to read Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential : Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly. This book will, apparently, be able to show me "the true joys of making good food at a professional level and what it feels like, looks like and smells like in the clatter and hiss of a big city restaurant kitchen". It could probably change my mind about joining a cooking school. We'll see how it goes.

Oh and by the way, I highlighted my hair. RED. Looking reaaaaaal good. Hahaha!

Rose Rose I Love You.

Despite being sick, I went up to Genting yesterday to catch Integrated Expression's latest 'pop musical', Rose Rose I Love You. I must say I really did enjoy myself. The dialogues are hilarious if you understand Cantonese and its slang.

Genting's weather was extremely chilly too. For a moment it felt like Auckland. Reminds me of how we used to go out for supper at night!

Breathe!

It will be darn great if I can stuck 2 tubes up both my nostril now to help me breathe! Am currently down with what I call the 4 brothers - sorethroat, fever, flu and cough. It's pretty sucky considering that I have open houses to attend to and the food is mostly heaty but yummy.

Much much better!

Travis Parker has everything a man could want: a good job, loyal friends, even a waterfront home in small-town North Carolina. In full pursuit of the good life -- boating, swimming, and regular barbecues with his good-natured buddies -- he holds the vague conviction that a serious relationship with a woman would only cramp his style. That is, until Gabby Holland moves in next door. Despite his attempts to be neighborly, the appealing redhead seems to have a chip on her shoulder about him...and the presence of her longtime boyfriend doesn't help. Despite himself, Travis can't stop trying to ingratiate himself with his new neighbor, and his persistent efforts lead them both to the doorstep of a journey that neither could have foreseen. Spanning the eventful years of young love, marriage and family, The Choice ultimately confronts us with the most heart-wrenching question of all: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive? (The Choice)

So yeah, I neglected the other unread books on my shelf and went straight to Nicholas Sparks' latest. Felt shortchanged when I finished Dear John a couple of months ago. I thought Nicholas Sparks could have written better. This is definitely much better!

Stupidity

Since yesterday I wanted to write about how my car got demoted to parking outside my house because my brother bought a new Volkswagen car. I always feel safer having to park my car in the porch especially coming home from a late night.

Anyway, the story began with the owner wanting me to reverse his VW and him reversing mom's BMW. All done but apparently there was a faulty reverse light on the VW. Ignorant to the fact (and my words) that all cars have both the reverse light on when the gear is at 'R' (such a moron), owner started mom's car to compare. With the BMW's door fully opened and him unable to step on the brakes, go figure, it rolled backwards and poor door smashed the entire left side of the 1-day old VW, forcing it further beyond the hinges' limitation. The car kept rolling backwards until it hit the gate with a loud bang. Our gate is seriously sturdy but the impact almost ripped the frame apart.

Mom's car door is in a mess, we can't close it anymore. The rear bumper is hanging in there. As for the VW, well, the left side mirror's frame were detached and there are stretches of dents around the car body. You should see the look on the dejected owner's face! I reckon it was a classic!

As I saw how it happened, I can't help but to think that my intestines would probably come right out from my mouth if I was standing at the gate at that exact moment! Crushed to dust between the sturdy BMW and the equally sturdy gate.

Don't judge me.

After numerous procrastination and indecisiveness I've decided to head to KDU to inquire about the culinary arts course I am interested in. So straight after lunch with a friend in Uptown, I drove up to Damansara Utama/Jaya. Maybe it was lunch time, so the surrounding area was crazily congested and I couldn't get a parking space. Made rounds while freaking out at the sight of college students. Don't get me wrong. There was nothing wrong with them. Just ordinary college-goers. As to why I freaked out, well, I suddenly felt weird and out of place. Maybe because I was out of school for a while and is already comfortable with not having to go to classes anymore. So I am putting the inquiring off until next week and went to One Utama instead.

I know I have a couple of unread books on my shelf. I know I am supposed to read it first before buying new ones because I will neglect the old books. But I need to spend some moolah to get over the freaked out feeling. So I splurged. RM100 for 2 fresh books.

These will stay in the vacuumed wrapper until I decided to read it.

Oh look!

My tickets are finally here.

Oh yeah, oh yeah!

I found my mystery song, thanks to the concert rundown I obtained from the Internet. Armed with the song title [有(yau) 發(faat) 生(saang) 過(gwoh)], I scoured the 23 albums I have and found the song in an album dated back to year 1999. Now it explains why the mystery song sounded so familiar.

So it is actually in a cd I own, not as claimed otherwise in the previous post. Opps.

Superb Show!

Patiently waited for over 10 years. Faithfully collected over 23 albums and 7 concert vcds/dvds. Watched almost all the movies. Finally. Finally I am happy and proud and relieved to say that I have attended her concert (the one in Genting is not counted-la. So small scale!). Not that I went to Hong Kong solely to catch the concert. It just happen to fit into my schedule.

It was easy to secure my tickets. The hard part was to get my hands literally on them. All Pos Malaysia's fault. Click here to find out how it started. Made plenty of calls to Pos Malaysia prior to the official Raya break to find out whether I can get my mail on time or not. Even offered to pick it up myself since I needed it so urgently. As usual, I was transfered around. Call Pos Malaysia KLIA, call Pos Malaysia Shah Alam, call Pos Malaysia Dayabumi. Call call call. And finally someone tells me that there isn't any operations on that day because of Raya. Hello! Friday is not the official Raya break! I can't even collect the mail even though it is sitting in the mailbag.

Asked Crystal to help me call URBTIX, the ticketing agent in Hong Kong. The only solution to obtain replacement tickets requires me to report loss of property with the Hong Kong Police (HKP). So that's what I did the moment I landed in Chek Lap Kok Airport. I've traveled to Hong Kong almost annually for the past 20 years but traveling to the HKP station is my very first. The poor policeman was in a dilemma as he has no idea how to write the report. Apparently, no one has ever reported loss of concert tickets to him. Well, there's always first time for everything, right?

So finally, I managed to get it reported and faxed it to URBTIX. Got my replacement tickets and as much as I want to complain of the hassle I had to go through, the concert, thankfully, was worth all that.

Song selections for the concert was wonderful. Songs from 10 years ago to the song from 3 months ago were all nicely performed. As usual, she messed up some lyrics and funnily acknowledges it to everyones' delight. Conversation parts were hilarious!

By any chance, does anyone know the title for this mysterious song? It's familiar to the extend that I actually know some of the lyrics but I don't have it on my iTunes or on any of the cds I own.

Concert is over and I am home. I still haven't receive my mail from Pos Malaysia. Efficient or what?

Marit Larsen.

This name may sound familiar to some of you. Marit Larsen, previously associated with M2M had released a debut solo album since 2006 and I just found out. As far as I am concerned, the album is not released here, hence no publicity, hence you can't blame me for my ignorance. But anyway, I've always preferred her better than the other M(arion Raven) and I have to say that I like the songs from the album. And they are seriously addictive.

Try if you don't trust me.

Hong Kong already?

I bet most of us who are not celebrating the Hari Raya would take advantage of the lack of traffic jam in the city to explore the shopping centres around. I was at the Pavilion with my family and gosh, if I didn't know better I would have thought that I arrived at Hong Kong 2 days earlier than scheduled! Probably around 90% of the people walking in and out of Pavilion and the Bukit Bintang area are Chinese. The shops around that area are similar to Hong Kong's and if it wasn't for the Raya songs and the gamelan troupe playing in the concourse area, I would have really mistaken it for Hong Kong.

Speaking of Hong Kong, I don't feel as excited as before. Mainly, this is caused by the hassle I have to go through to get my replacement tickets for the concert. There's this really long story about why I couldn't get my mail from Pos Malaysia because of the Raya break. And since I am not willing to lose RM750, I will have to do what I have to do.

Oh, I am so pissed off to the extend that I am not entirely looking forward to the concert anymore. And if I managed to get the replacement tickets, the concert better be good!

Annual Event.

Hari Raya transforms Taman Tun into a culinary paradise. Like previous years just about a week before Hari Raya, the stretch of road between Taman Tun and Damansara Utama are congested with cars parked along the road with people getting out to purchase lemang or bamboo rice.

Ba? Ma?

It's good to be living in a multi-racial country. I may not be celebrating Ramadhan but that does not mean I cannot have a share of goodies from the Ramadhan Bazaar. If you have to choose only one food to buy among all the others, get the Kebab Melawati. Seriously. The portion is just alright so it's okay to have one as a snack just before dinner (that's if you are not fasting).

Kebababababababa..

The other thing I crave for during Ramadhan are dates, or kurma.

Kurmamamamamama...

Look at the size of these giant kurma! Taste heavenly and totally to die for! Oolala~

Whaaat?!

I've been having some kind of pain on some of my joints; left thumb, right knee and right big toe. I think my mom is just trying to scare me. Probably trying to stop me from drinking iced drinks too. "It could be arthritis" she said. Call me ignorant or whatever. It sounds like something only older people gets.

Any doctors reading this? Give me free consultation!

Niceee.

Explored The Gardens Mid Valley today and I would have to say I prefer Pavilion. Somehow walking around Pavilion felt more interesting. Nevertheless, I did some shopping at The Gardens and I feel gooooooood.

You are reminded that you are living in a multi-racial country when a Chinese girl (me) asked an Indian dude to pack the leftover sandwich and he said tapau to a Malay lady. Nice, isn't it?

Straight after that we went to Dad's new office in USJ. My first visit since completion and seriously, I am impressed!

Eager.

Myanmar was the destination of choice for this year's Raya break. I even had my visa made but unfortunately, the current situation in that country is not suitable for tourists. Sigh. I am getting a long break from work so I am definitely not gonna stay in KL. So away from KL is what I am gonna do. Hong Kong; 4 days 3 nights, here I coooooooooome!

Besides visiting my second home, I'll be watching a concert by my favourite HK singer at the infamous Hong Kong Coliseum. My seats are 2nd row from the stage, baybeh! *woot woot* Transaction for the tickets are confirmed and I am just waiting for the tickets to come though my mailbox. Please, for God's sake, let Pos Malaysia be efficient this time and get me my mail before Raya!

Imbecile.

There are some people out there who you wished you could drag him out of his car via his side window and give him a nice, big and powerful punch in the eye. All these for being a total inconsiderate imbecile who thinks everyone is at fault beside himself.

Patience are being tested to the limits when you have an imbecile next to your car who rather honk continuously and freaking scold the nice security guard who risked his life (who knows, the imbecile might whack him) to resolve the problem. All the imbecile needed to do is reverse his lousy Proton Wira to the side a little and everyone who got stuck could eventually move on. But nooo, he rather honk, wave his stupid arm frantically and probably cursing everyone.

Seriously, if he gets beaten by someone, I will be the cheering.

Mid-Autumn.

I was in Auckland during last year's mid-autumn festival. Mooncakes they sell in the Asian supermarkets in Auckland are either too pricey or has already expired. Kate's friend gave her a mooncake from Tai Thong and she decided to share it with a few of us. Being so far away from home, all of us were happy to have a mooncake on the table. It was a great moment because each of us had a small wedge and relishes the taste (eventhough some of us are not a fan of them). Meanwhile, we were also practically guarding it from a greedy housemate who we thought may rob us of our precious mooncake!

Mooncakes in Malaysia are on sale since June. Frankly, I only had a quarter wedge of the mooncake and it's not even from one of those many boxes I have at home! See how humans take things for granted? Such a contrast from the situation mentioned earlier.

Apparently, "BBQ outside under the moon is a regional custom" (wikipedia). So BBQ outside under the moon is what we did!

Memory.

I have this really vague memory about a particular Tom and Jerry cartoon episode which I love when I was a young child. I remember some of the images and with that, I googled it up and found a couple episodes that fits the images. There are 3 different episodes under the same theme but I finally found the one I was looking for. Watching it again after so many years, I don't really know why I particularly love this episode back then...

So How?

All you need to do is talk to the respective party and tell them what you know. It would make a change for the better. So will you?

Crappy.

A start of a new week hasn't changed anything yet. I am getting so messed up that I think it has started to affect my appetite. Funny how I've been eating a little less lately. It may sound bad but I actually don't mind. Been drinking lotsa water to replace my solid food intake, which would probably clean my system a little.

Come to think of it, crappy would be an understatement. I actually feel more than crappy. It's just that I can't think of a better word. Maybe now I can finally get an excuse to drink the Stella.

Okaaay...

The flying book (below) is supposed to make flying easier for me. Just as I was feeling all good about flying, the headline on today's newspaper, ironically, is about a plane crash in Thailand.

2007 seems like a pretty bad year for the aviation business, considering that there were already few reported cases of plane crashes :/

Sunday, September 16, 2007

Shocking.

Came across Beslan Siege on Discovery Channel while I was channel surfing on Astro. God, I was so engrossed in the documentary that now I am actually feeling mentally disturbed. The documentary shows real videos recorded during the siege, which made it even more interesting, terrifying and shocking.

So what else did I do on my off day? Read a book on 'flying'. Don't be misled by the title. It's not a funky aviation book, but rather a book about everything you've ever wondered about flying on airlines. Quite informative and easy to read. At least everything I've ever wondered about flying on airlines make sense now.

Emotionally Overcharged.

Exactly what I meant when I said friendship is always something I tend to take for granted.

Hairspray.

Hairspray provided all the entertainment I needed to prevent me from falling asleep after an exhausting day. I yawned numerously but trust me, it wasn't the movie.

You know this situation about how you wanted to bump into someone so much and yet you won't, but when you least expected it, you will? It happened today. Frankly, I was feeling crappy so I wasn't really in the talking mood. Then I bumped into Mrs. Liung (you know who you are) outside GSC's snack counters. A little catching up on our life seems like the right thing to do, aye? After the movie, I bumped into the usual TTDI suspects. Talk about fate.

Funny how both parties verbally attacked me over things about someone else, which I myself wasn't sure about. Smile and 'I don't know' is the best I could do :/

Get a grip!

My life is slowly drifting back to the pace that I am familiar with. It hasn't been too long but it is indeed hard to revert back to normal. My first off day for the month is this coming Sunday. No idea what to do yet but I guess I'll just hang around.

My dad had his left eye operated today at Vista for cataract. They'll do the right eye next week. Just a simple operation so there's nothing much to worry about. A typical workaholic, if my dad have his way he would go back to work tomorrow!

I hope to get my shortsightedness corrected too. The technique sounded scary but the outcome turned out well for my brothers!

Mystery.

I woke up this morning with total disbelief. 7 hours earlier, I remember having about 4Gb of spaces left in my hard disk. Once I finished downloading my 88Mb bittorent file, I noticed that I have only 700Mb left in the hard disk. Like, wtf! Taking it as a sign of old age (for the computer, I mean!), I shut it down, hope that it was only some technical error and pray that my Gbs comes back, someway, somehow.

Instead of reverting to normal, it stayed at 700Mb. Then few minutes later, it went down to 300+Mb. Then 70+Mb. Then damage control took over. Thanks to WhatSize, I managed to clear all the useless logs and redundant files. Voila! I now have 11.89Gb in my hard disk. I still couldn't find out what causes the Gbs to go missing at the first place though.

Totally unrelated, I think I had just annoyed a friend over a little hangout time. Working for 28days per month kinda break a person mentally. I apologize for my insensitivity. Sorry.

Eczema.

The two scaly patch behind my right palm has finally been identified. A short appointment with a dermatologist finally confirmed that it was not fungal infection but skin eczema. I've heard of eczema but never understood it until I google it up. Apparently its common and not contagious, thank God. Vaseline and the medicated cream from the dermatologist is my current best friend.

Oh by the way, the black-ish toenail I got from descending Mount Kinabalu is falling off. Not entirely out but I can lift it up to check out the brand new toenail I'm gonna have. I am so going to keep that nail in a jar and remember it as part of my Kinabalu nightmare ;)

Tribute to friends.

A particular friend once asked me what do I mean when I said "Friendship is always...something I tend to take for granted". I can't remember exactly how I explained that but I think its along the line of how I did not keep in touch. But that's only a portion of the truth. Many times I tried, numerous times I failed. Disappointments are plenty but I don't show it. I don't talk about it. I just hope it goes away. Eventually.

Personally, it's not much about keeping in touch. "Two's company, three's a crowd", I just don't want to be the crowd. I hate being the crowd. I've learned to back off. Maybe its the 'back off' that people sees it as failure to keep in touch. Please don't get offended. It's just the way I am.

Despite that, I am glad to have a bunch of really supportive friends; those I grew up with, those I met in college, and those I stayed with in Auckland.
Cheers to those who are still sticking around!

^_^

What a pleasant day at work today. A mafan regular customer and her daughter really made my day and I was beaming the whole time, to the point of annoying the boss (who was clearly jealous of me).

The conversation was something like this:
Customer (mother): Hi, the usual please.
Annie: xx sandwich and regular low fat x?
Customer: Yes. She (daughter) likes it when you make it
Daughter: *smiles
Annie: *beamed (suddenly they don't seem so troublesome anymore...)

It was a great compliment (with added pressure). Ironically, I just mastered the technique to make that particular drink not too long ago.

Work gets fun sometimes (and attempts to burn someone's bulu mata was definitely one of them) :D

Inspired?

I was on leave last Monday and took the opportunity to enhance my limited culinary creativity by icing some cupcakes. It doesn't require me to sweat it out in front of a stove but it felt as if it was as difficult! I am more certain now that I want to be a chef and not a pastry chef!

The cupcakes were yummy but the icing were just too sweet. The reason why I still have 2 cupcakes in my fridge...

It seems like everyone has it. Now its my turn.

Annie's Wishlist:
1) New Apple iMac (RM5,799) / Apple MacBook (RM4,999)
2) Canon IXUS 950IS digital camera (RM1,499)
3) Sony Ericsson K770i mobile phone (RM?)
4) New colour for my baby (RM?)

Now that I've listed them out, it seems like I need about RM10,000!!! *faint

Time Off.

The nature of my job wasn't all that tough but it doesn't mean that I don't need a time off. I haven't really stopped working since coming back from Borneo last month. Working continuously for a month is no big deal but I just hate the fact that I am at the shop for almost every single day, which include the weekends when everyone else is probably out having fun.

My mom has been nagging me for quite abit as I was out most nights and coming back in the wee hours. Well, she'll just have to accept the fact that my life starts only after the shop closes! Gosh, I can't imagine how occupied I will be once we expand the business!

Wonderful!

Alas, all great things must come to an end. It was a great low-profile celebration, I must say.

Dinner was super filling for me (unlike someone who could finish the entire mains. I still can't believe it!) and movie was, well, sleepy for the 2nd film. And I am sure I am not the only one who dozed off numerous times!

Wonderful, wonderful. We should do the movie thing again soon. But skip the Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice-cream, Hugh Grant and, erm, you-know-what combination, okay?

Oh, and don't run away with the entire tub of Haagen-Dazs! :p

Coincidence.

Happy Left-Handers Day!

For the past 23 years, I never knew that left-handers were actually celebrated. Coincidentally, my previous post was about us southpaws. Now that I know, I feel so proud!

Southpaw.

south·paw –noun
1.a person who is left-handed.

So I am a southpaw-ian. Makes me sound like a bear. You know, there's this section on my University-distributed diary that tell us those strange but true stuffs. I clearly remember one that says, "Every year, xxx thousands of left-handed people died trying to use tools meant for right-handers".

And how could I ever forget the other one that says, "Left-handers have shorter life than right-handed people".

Oh yeah. Of course. We have shorter life because we die trying to use tools made for right-handers. How selfish is that?!

Southpaws rules!

Seriously.

It's freaky how your horoscope actually tells you what kind of person you are. Few months ago, I gathered with my cousin and a friend to check out the horoscopes and all those mumbo-jumbo stuffs. Seriously, I think my horoscope describes me too freakily well.

That thing about being dreamy, sensitive, self-sacrificing without expecting returns, over-emotional, imaginative, romantic, impractical etc. is all so true.

Such a typical Piscean. Sigh. And that quiz on Cleo. God.

Reality.

I totally agree when people say time passes really quick when you are having fun and time crawls when you are working. Since I started going back to work on Monday, I haven't really had a break. My legs are no longer aching but I have a bruised toe, as a result of Mount Kinabalu descent. I still hate both of u. Definitely no more attempts to hike Mount Kinabalu. Forever. Over my dead body.

When I was dragging my legs up the steps without my backpack, one of these dudes overtook me and at a blink of an eye, gone all the way ahead. Tell me la, am I supposed to be motivated or not?
